Activity 8.3 Preparing for a Family-Teacher Conference

Progress made in the following areas: Undrestanding that there are rules when playing games; coloring within the lines; and Identifying most letters and numbers.

The activity the child enjoys the most: Jumping rope; drawing; dress up fantasy play; computer time.

The child is most excited and attentive when it is time for outside play; kicking the ball; playing in the sand box. Also when elected to be class line leader.

The best form of redirection for this child is when given choices to allow take a walk around or breathing deep. Asking if insted would like to do a puzzle which he always loves to do.

One objective the family could work on at home is offer options that might suggest more that one task to choose from. Copy triangles and other geometric patterns.

Health Alert: November 2012

RINGWORM: is a contagious disease caused by a fungus.
Ringworm is usually round. It has a slight raised outer edge and a pink center. It may occur on the scalp or any part of the body. It is usually itchy.
A child in our center was treated by a doctor and has begun treatment, there is usually no need to exclude the child, although you may need to cover areas infected with light dressing. Ringworm is spread by direct or indirect contact with infected skin or hair of children our staff isolated the child as far as we know no one was directly exposed, but that might not be the case.

Thank you if you have any questions please feel free to call 777-7777 or email happyfeet@yahoo.com. Thank you Center Director Louise McCowan.

Journal Entry Two

Activity 1.1

Identifying your Audience:

Current students; families; staff; future students; families; child. Families entrusting the child care center with their children, and in return neighbors; vendors are all considered your audience. These are people who currently patronize your business. This is the audience that needs the most information about your center. Happy children and content families are your best advertisement. Child Care Facilities dont want a child leaving there center with stories about a terrable day.

Activity1.2

Additional Conversation:

Important information for upcomming events should be clearly communicated to all staff members in advance. Logistical problems should have been anticipated and dealt wiyh proactively.

Activity 1.3

Define who you are:

How do you visualize your business?

A Child Care Center that makes the transition from care given by the family to the care given by the center as easy as possible. To have properly trained staff in reconizing and counseling an unhappy child. Families entrusting the child care center with their children, and in return they will be assured that their children are happy, and thriving. Having employees who are informed, who feel that they are able to make a contribution, and who are trusted to interact with children and their families. I would like to consider my Child Care Center affortable. If the rates are higher the advantages would be the number of staff to children would not just be the required number of staff and educational materials for the children to have fun with while learning.

Academically oriented:

Yes, academically oriented would be something the families would recognize by information provided by teachers. Also how the progress of each child should be recognized by families as their child grows and develops with each stage.

Policies, Programs, and Curriculm identify your program:

Having highly trained, dedicated staff who strives to make this program of the highest quality. Teaching staff having all been trained extensively in child development, and completly invested in ensuring children recieve the best early educational experience available.

Educational Curriculum:

To believe that curriculum models should be designed as framework that guides teachers involvement. Ensuring using creative curriculum, teachers are better able to meet children's social, and language development needs.

Strengths of the center:

Educational services; nutrition services ;transition training; educational curriculum; intrest centers in the classroom; ongoing education for staff.

Improvements; parent education and participation; parent communication; poorly informed staff; providing inconsistent messages.

  1. Confidentiality code was violated with this mother by some personal information on the child's record that she did not want to be revealed. The confidentiality code was broken when she heard a groop of teachers talking about what happend in class and saying things like their must be problems at home.
  2. The confidentially code was violated with child when he was topic of conversation at a resturant with co-workers.
  3. Discusion between two Directors is fine if the HIPPA is applied during this discussion if the conversation was to help in a way that cared for the child that may help in his transition with the parent consent.
  4. The parent should be included in any meeting to help for transitioning for the child to be as smooth as possible for everyone in the childcare center as well as family support.
  5. Having on going conversations with Eric's classmates would be appropiate as they may require a little different transitioning to something new to them as well. This will be something everyone will experience together to learn as they grow would be key.
  6. Methods that help Eric's transition to his new school letting him bring some familiar things to feel more comfortable. Establish a friendship with Eric and let him know that you will be his friend and will soon have many more friends at his new school. Implement some lesson plans about how you make others feel when you are not nice to others.
  7. The teacher conversation at the resturant was just how something like saying there must be problems at home escalate and are just unfounded and come from making small talk about something you may know nothing about. This was very unprofessional and you just never know who may be listening.
  8. This same conversation in the staff lounge should never take place in the center. The teacher should never be the topic of discussion as gosip.
  9. As a Director you can talk with the family and assure that they address the privacy issue that was violated with staff apologize with the assurance it will never happen again. The staff will be handled according to the policies and procedures they have agreed to under the terms of employment at this facility. Assure the family you are very sorry and their son will recieve the quality care that is expected of the center.
  10. The mother should feel a level of caution and may not feel this is the place for her child. I would feel the same as a parent in this citation.
  11. Transition is very hard on any child so to leave Eric and not move him would just be too hard for children this is best for the child.

Design of Original Staff Meeting:
Issues to be discussed:

  1. Parent Relationships; Relationships with parents of children must remain professional at all times.
  2. Making sample lesson plans with all teachers in a classroom imputing on ideas.
  3. Outdoor play schedule/procedures; if weather permits every class will have two outdoor periods for learning play.
  4. Playground safety: Teaching staff will wear gloves while they check the playground on a daily basis twice per day for forigin objects, as a safety precaution ect.
  5. Recording/ Observations of Children: Teachers will do observations on their children once per day and recording necessary fot the creative curriculum'
  6. Discuss Teachers Role during meal times: The teacher's role during meal time is to encourage and accompany children at the table while they are eating. Use proper table manners and use the time for conversation, and teaching moments about nutrition and health.
This staff meeting is very important to all staff to ensure the safety of our children we care for and some issues that need to be addressed from observations done in our classrooms.

How does it feel when someone does not use your name, gives you the cold sholder, does not make eye contact and only greets you with complaints?
When someone does not address you with your name it feels like no attempt to respect you or if the person is appropiate in the way they communicate. This is also the feeling of the cold shoulder as if  they just had to say something but you can tell they were not sincer. For a person to not look at you as well as greet you with only complaints should bring concerns as to how your child may be treated. First of all, the child does not need to hear complaints about what may have occured, and no parent should ever be greeted in this way. i would think a person should feel that this would not be a happy environment to be addressed the way they were greeted and treated. This would make some people feel that their child is not being cared for properly so this is the reason or nature of the complaints of an un happy child and they can see why. It is vey important to greet someone with eye contact and express your self to build a relationship with that person and be able to see their reaction to what you might have to say.

Activity2.1Creating Consistent Messages:

Show the parent the health regulations, outside food cannot be brought into any Early Childhood Service Center. Oklahoma Department of Human Services Licensing Standards for child Care Centers. This situation can be viewed as a temporary basis until the family has found some one to care for the family member on Fridays. Let the other staff know it will be just temporary until the employee finds other solutions to a problem of life circumstances that they may need one day as well.

Activity 2.2
Handling Confrontation:
When approaching this co-worker to confront them to resolve why they would take your plans remain non-emotional. Suggest that if they need some help or ideas that you would be glad to help them, but please don't just take your plans like that it is not something one co-worker should do to another co-worker.
Scenario 2:
Letting the parent know that you are sorry this happend. If knowledge of this incident was known it would have been documented and reported to them yesterday. If the father is not satisfied with this response he may talk with the Director to resolve any concerns or issues about reporting any incidents in the Child Care Center.
